Morning Lemon/Lime Water

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

I know this isn't much of a 'recipe' per se, but it is a foundation of my daily wellness practice, and worth mentioning here! After a night of sleep our bodies need hydration first thing upon waking, even BEFORE coffee or breakfast.

Lemons and limes offer a multitude of benefits, including providing the digestive system with a cleansing flush first thing in the morning, adding electrolytes to the body, creating alkalinity (an alkaline state is what the body needs to heal from inflammation), helping to expel mucus, and giving the body a highly absorbable form of Vitamin C. The roots of lemon and lime trees go deep into the earth as the fruit grows, extracting lots of essential trace minerals that get passed to you when you consume the fruit.

The night before I fill up a ball jar with 12 oz of water. I let it sit out over night for 12+ hours (this allows chemicals like chlorine and flouride that are common in tap water, even it if is filtered, time to evaporate). This also is a good visual reminder to drink my water first thing!

In the morning I warm up the water for 30-60 seconds in the microwave. I like mine warm, but you can consume it room temp - just not cold as this puts out the 'digestive fire'. I squeeze 1/4 of a lemon and 1/4 of a lime into the water and drink up! Some people like to add a pinch of himalayan salt to add extra nutrients and electrolytes. Enjoy!
